Sitting Pretty with Serena & Lily

Posted by Nicola McLaughlin on

As it is in most homes, our kitchen is the heart of our home. The moment someone walks into our front door they head straight to the kitchen. When we have friends over they without fail gather around our kitchen island. Our two girls do their art projects at our kitchen island. As a family we sit at the kitchen island throughout the day and have most meals here together. The island in our kitchen is a very high traffic/high functioning area.
Recently I had found myself looking for new counter stools for our kitchen. Our previous counter stools were gray and white, while matching our Carrara white marble perfectly, they did not give me a level of interest I was looking for in such a prominent and used area of our house.
With a background in interior design I have always considered blue to be both a neutral and a pop of color for my design work. Blue can make a statement and add interest but it can also be subtle at the same time. Overall, I was needing a balance in a lot of different ways, I had been wanting to add color, but not too much color into our white kitchen. We wanted something pretty, yet practical. We wanted something not too cool of a color, but preferably in the blue family. We needed something comfortable and sturdy. The moment I saw the Serena & Lily Sunwashed Riviera collection in blue, I knew they were what I had been looking for and the perfect fit.
Not only are they pretty, but they are also practical with our children. The kitchen island is where our two girls have the majority of their meals. The counter stools are beautifully painted which makes them so easy to wipe down and clean off. They perfectly ticked off yet another balance I was looking for in our counter stools, durable and aesthetically pleasing.
Once they arrived I immediately put them in place and was so pleased with them in every way. They were the perfect balance of everything we were looking for. They added a touch of sophisticated warm blue color, not too light and sweet, to our kitchen. The base of the stools is a very warm natural bamboo which adds even more depth and interest to their overall look. One of my favorite parts about them is that that the Sunwashed Riviera Counter Stools have a nod to the classic Parisian bistro chairs.
